Fan fashion show rivals Lollapalooza music

Dressing appropriately for Lollapalooza takes skill — a trendsetter’s fashion forwardness paired with heaps of attitude.

Take Jazmine Ruiz, for example. On Saturday, as throngs of concertgoers arrived at Grant Park for Day 2 of the three-day festival, the North Side teen showed up in pink shorts, a black-and-white AFI T-shirt (the band she was planning to see) and knee-high black furry boot covers over her canvas shoes. She topped off the outfit by dying her hair green, tiffany necklaces, pink, blue, red and purple.

"I wanted to do something crazy for Lollapalooza," said Ruiz, 18.

Among the crowd expected to exceed 80,000, all sorts of creative fashion styles were on display — a visual show that at times outshone the musical acts. There were tiaras, bejeweled crowns, oversize sunglasses, body paint, wigs, and head-turning hats and disco bras inspired by Lady Gaga, who played Friday.

At times, tiffany bracelets, the accessories had a purpose.

Mary-Kate Moroney, 18, of Chicago, brought along a fake sunflower atop a long garden pole. Her friends had identical sunflowers, with all of them holding their flowers over the sea of people so they could more easily spot one another in the crowd.

Nick Stracco, 19, of Oak Park, took off his T-shirt and decorated his chest with a laminated sign reading "Free Hugs." He got plenty of them.

"I don’t know what it is about the word ‘free,’" he said, tiffany rings, "but I think it sells it for people. People give good hugs and the only outcome is happiness."

Another new accessory spotted amid the crowd: children.

Parents said they brought along their young ones to share in their love of music. Kids 10 and under are admitted free.

Rick Conrad, 41, of La Grange, brought his 9-year-old son Felix Saturday so they could both catch Social Distortion and Gogol Bordello.

"I grew up with music," Conrad said. "It’s been a huge part of my life, so I want to pass it down to my kid."

Nearby, tiffany cuff Links, more children walked with temporary tattoos, decked-out T-shirts and spiked hair.

Suspects in jewelry theft cases face more charges

Police again are looking for an accused jewelry thief and her stepfather.

Earlier this month, Debra McAdams, 42, of Delmont and Arthur T. McGuire, 61, of Slickville, Salem Township, posted bond and were released from the Westmoreland County jail pending preliminary hearings scheduled in August.

McAdams is charged with using deception to steal 33 rings and gold bracelets in a shop on Route 66 in Washington Township in May and four diamond rings at Seita Jewelry in Tarentum on July 13.

Until this week, McGuire only was charged in the Washington Township case.

McAdams and McGuire now are facing even more criminal charges in Tarentum as well as in Erie.

Sometime after McAdams posted $75,000 combined bond for the local cases, police say she threatened a witness against her. The witness, who is her stepsister, helped police to find McAdamsand identifyMcGuire as the man working with her.

On Thursday, Tarentum police Chief Bill Vakulick said police consequently are charging McAdams with witness intimidation.

Police are asking that her bond in the case be revoked when she is found.

Tarentum police have filed theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy charges against McGuire for allegedly helping McAdams take about $38,tiffany bracelets,000 worth of rings from Seita Jewelry.

Three of those rings were found at an upscale jewelry store July 17 in Millcreek Township, Erie County, said state police Trooper Mark G. Lugin.

Lugin has filed warrants to arrest McAdams and McGuire for theft by deception and criminal conspiracy.

"They sold them for much less than they were worth," he said, declining to say how much money they got.

Lugin said there haven’t been reports of similar ring and jewelry thefts in that area but store owners have been asked to check their inventories.

Records indicate McAdams posted $25,tiffany,000 cash bond July 18 on the Tarentum charges. But she remained in the Allegheny County Jail because she was held on a detainer in the Washington Township case.

McAdams was released from the Westmoreland County jail July 19 after posting $50,000 straight bond.

State police in Erie have been looking for McAdams and McGuire since Monday. Tarentum police filed the new charges on them Wednesday.

Police are looking for them in the Slickville and Grapeville areas near Greensburg, as well as in Warren County, because McAdams was found in a family cabin there.

Police said McAdams,Charm bracelet, who has used at least six false names in the past 20 years, tiffany pendants, has been known to frequent Arizona and North Carolina. Police said she served jail time in both states.

Online fashion seller ModCloth finds social commer

On a recent Wednesday, a collection of young writers gathers on couches in the corner of an office in the Strip District. It’s a meeting that brings them together every morning at 10:30.

A daschund dozes off on one writer’s lap as 31-year-old blogger Richard Brown, a lover of all things "Star Trek" and Western wear, leads the discussion.

Wearing a black and teal bolo, he holds up clothes, jewelry and other knickknacks as if he’s playing show and tell. His colleagues throw out catchy names for the items to post on the company’s website.

"Grape Expectations" for a "stylishly novel" purple dress, "Strike a Rose" for a floral top and "Truffle Shuffle" for a pair of mushroom salt and pepper shakers.

It’s another brainstorming session for one of the fastest growing fashion start-ups in the region — ModCloth.

This online retailer,Tiffany Money Clips, begun in 2002 by high school sweethearts Eric and Susan Gregg Koger, has become something of a Cinderella story.

It started the summer before Eric and Susan, living in Florida at the time, entered college at Carnegie Mellon University. Susan, now 25, who loved "thrifting," often bought more clothes than she could wear, so Eric, now 26,Tiffany bracelets, suggested selling the excess online. After graduating from CMU in 2006,Tiffany bangles, the young couple decided to expand their small, dorm-room business into a full-time enterprise, offering women all over the world vintage-inspired clothing from independent designers.

Blossoming into a successful business — with an office in the Strip District and distribution center on the South Side near Station Square — ModCloth became profitable in 2009 and now employs more than 150 people.

Last year, Mr. Koger told Bloomberg Businessweek that ModCloth earned around $1 million a month in sales and more than 1.25 million people visit the website monthly.

The Kogers, now married and living in Friendship, announced plans to again expand their operations after raising $19.8 million in funding from Accel Partners. The company moved its new headquarters to San Francisco in May and opened a supply chain operation in Los Angeles.

The Pittsburgh offices will continue to serve as the hub for customer support and distribution.

ModCloth has five buyers traveling all over America to search for inventory that suits the company’s style. Eighteen percent of its revenue comes from international customers and about 70 percent of the inventory comes from California, which is one of the main reasons why ModCloth moved its headquarters there.

Its top four designers are Coral & Jade Apparel, BB Dakota, Tulle and Ryu.

When it started, ModCloth sold exclusively vintage products. Since 2006,Tiffany Sets, the company has added vintage-inspired clothing. The company posts between 10 and 55 vintage-inspired products and one or two vintage items on the website daily.

"The vintage items sell quickly because they’re one of a kind, more special. We don’t have as many vintage items anymore," said ModCloth’s merchandising manager Ashley Guge. "But at the heart, we’re still vintage."

Modcloth employees take great care in how they present their products on the website.

Its products arrive at the Strip District office on Smallman Street from the distribution center. Workers steam the clothes, prep them and put them on mannequins to be photographed.

The photographers shoot through the computer and the images are transferred to image specialists who edit the pictures. Since customers don’t see the actual product before they buy it, one difficult part of this process is making sure that the picture looks like the product. After this process is finished, the product goes onto the website.

There are no desks or cubicles in ModCloth’s Strip District office — just oddly shaped tables with flat-screen computer monitors and an assortment of dogs that come to the office as often as the employees do. A Pomeranian, a Jack Russell terrier, a Yorkie and several pugs roam the office or sit obediently next to their owners’ sides. Susan Koger’s pug, Winston, is the company’s mascot.

At the brainstorming session, the writers discuss and manage the company’s newsletters, stylebook and blog.

Each of the writers’ projects varies throughout the week. They blog three to five posts a day about fashion, food, music, books and more.

Aside from interacting with customers on Facebook and Twitter, ModCloth has a popular feature on its website called "Be the Buyer," in which customers can choose which clothes they like. The products that get the most votes become part of ModCloth’s inventory. Shoppers can vote on items they want to see in stock, help name and describe products and suggest styling tips.

"We’re trying to democratize fashion so a lot of the features like ‘Be the Buyer’ allow our customers to choose items that wouldn’t have gone into production otherwise," said Alicia Barnes, 25, ModCloth’s public relations manager. "We want to continue with features like that and make the site more of a community and more of a social shopping experience for customers."

Last November, Modcloth added ModStylists to its staff to act as personal shopping assistants and to answer shopping and style questions. The ModStylists guide customers and give advice from how to accessorize to what to wear to an event.

"Our department offers style advice to our customers and they can chat, e-mail or call us … live chats are our most popular medium," said Nicole Czapinski, 26, a ModStylist, wearing a bird-shaped, plastic pin in her hair.

Sharon Vaknin, a blogger for CNET News, wrote that it’s rare for a company to have such an interactive relationship with its customers.

"Without the customer-company separation, ModCloth is more like a best friend who gives you fashion advice, shares her favorite recipes, and joins your book club," she wrote in March. "Wait, we’re still talking about a clothing store, right?"

Mrs. Koger said the interaction has been effective.

"We have genuine conversations with our customers and listen to their opinions through social networking, our blog and ideas like ‘Be the Buyer,’ " she said.

"ModCloth is my life’s work and what I’m passionate about, so I hope that we’re able to continue to grow and do new, innovative things."

Michael Swope, Kelli McGeorge plan to marry in Sep

Michael Swope and Kelli McGeorge, tiffany pendants, both of Lodi, are engaged.

Swope graduated from Tokay High School in 2005, and then from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor of Science in geomatic engineering this year. He is employed by the Bureau of Land Management in Nevada. He is the son of Matthew and Elaine Swope, of Lodi.

McGeorge graduated from Tokay High School in 2004, and then from California State University, tiffany bangles, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance in 2009. She is employed by Mokelumne Federal Credit Union. She is the daughter of Timothy and Tammy McGeorge, tiffany cuff Links, of Lodi.

The couple was engaged on Dec. 5, 2008, on the beach at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz.

The two plan to marry on Sept. 18 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Lockeford.

LOS ANGELES, June 21 AAP – Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr and her Hollywood beau, Orlando Bloom, are set to walk down the aisle.

After months of marriage rumours, faux engagement ring sightings and denials from their publicists, the couple has decided to take the plunge.

Bloom’s publicist confirmed the lovebirds are engaged.

"They are engaged," Bloom’s representative told the New York Daily News.

Kerr, tiffany bracelets, 27, raised in the NSW country farming town of Gunnedah, first met the English-born Pirates of the Caribbean star backstage at a Victoria’s Secret lingerie fashion show in New York in 2006. They began dating in late 2007.

Bloom, 33, is one of Hollywood’s top leading men, with roles in the billion-dollar box office movie franchises Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as Troy, Ned Kelly and Elizabethtown.

Kerr and Bloom have said little publicly about their relationship, with the supermodel in 2008 telling People magazine Bloom was "a sweetheart and that’s all I’m gonna say". Also in 2008 the couple dismissed a report in the Australian press they were engaged, with Kerr’s publicist describing the story as "completely false and misleading".

Monday’s engagement confirmation has sparked speculation the good-looking couple would marry in Gunnedah.

Baby rumours will also likely follow.

Kerr has never hidden her love of a country life or a desire to have children.

"My ideal situation would be to live on a farm in a solar-powered house with a hammock and a vegetable patch," she told the New York Post’s Page Six Magazine in 2008.

"When this (modelling) is all over, that’s where I’ll be. I’ve always wanted kids, so someday, eventually, yes, it will happen."

Research and Markets Adds Report

Research and Markets has announced the addition of Textiles Intelligence’s new report "Prospects for the Textile and Clothing Industry in Thailand 2010" to its offerings.

In a release, Research and Markets noted that report highlights include:

The textile and clothing industry in Thailand encompasses a broad range of manufacturing activities and process stages, unlike the industries in many other Asian countries. It provides jobs for over 1 mn people, tiffany bracelets, making it the largest employer in Thailand’s manufacturing sector. Furthermore, its success in export markets has made it a significant earner of foreign exchange. Thailand is also a major importer of textiles and clothing as well as being a major exporter and in 2009 it bought US$2.9 bn worth of these items from the rest of the world.

The textile and clothing industry has benefited significantly over the years from government policies designed to encourage its development, and from the governments liberal stance on trade and foreign investment. However, it has also faced a number of challenges, including rising labour costs, tiffany pendants, declining productivity, and the global elimination of quotas which exposed it to the full forces of international competition. More recently, it has been adversely affected by the global economic downturn and in 2009 it suffered from an 11 percent fall in exports. Also, investors have been concerned about social and political instability and matters became even more serious in April 2010 when the government declared a state of emergency in response to a rising tide of street protestors. Internationally, tiffany money clips, there is the ever present threat of competition from other Asian producers, notably China. Although the quality of production in Thailand is considered to be good, production costs are higher than in many competing countries.

More positively, there are hopes that the decline in exports will be reversed in 2010 as demand picks up, not least in the key Western markets of the USA and the EU. Also, tiffany earrings, closer links are being forged with Japan under the terms of the Textile and Apparel Development for Export to Japan under JTEPA Framework initiative, and this holds the promise of access to the latest technology and enhanced marketing opportunities. Looking forward, although competition from lower cost countries looks set to intensify, the industry has the potential to become a significant and growing supplier of high added value products to international brands and major global retailing groups.
