The results of a monthslong investigation into the apparent suicide of his 25-year-old girlfriend inside his Henrico County apartment reached Wyatt Ward Hollar while he prepared to ship out with his National Guard unit in Mississippi.

It was July 24, 2007, and Hollar sat down to talk with veteran Henrico homicide detective Thomas Holsinger and Kevin Harver, a forensics specialist who had collected much of the evidence surrounding Danielle Wilson’s death.

They had traveled to Mississippi,Charm pendant, they said, key rings, because they wanted to be honest with the young soldier and Virginia Military Institute graduate who had been shot multiple times in Iraq; he had spent four years there working under a private contractor training police. He saw a lot of friends die, good people.

But he chuckled that he guessed some of the men who had attacked him and his fellow instructors and trainees had been recent graduates.

The conversation, which had been recorded and was played yesterday at Hollar’s second trial, grew a bit more tense.

"You’re not under arrest," Holsinger promised. "There’s no warrant or anything. But some of the results have come back that aren’t really explaining your side of the story."

Hollar listened patiently,Charm bracelet, and then Holsinger lowered the boom.

"There is no way she shot herself," Holsinger said of Wilson, who had graduated from James Madison University and planned to go to graduate school in business. "Based on my investigation and everything that I’ve learned, you did not tell us the truth. Of course, that’s not unusual in my line of work."

Holsinger pushed, speaking of VMI’s tradition of honor and truthfulness. He said scientific evidence, months of testing and test fires of a gun that Hollar said Wilson used all showed that the gunshot was fired from as far away as 3 feet, tiffany, an impossible distance for the woman to have executed a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her chest.

There was gunshot residue on both of Hollar’s hands and on one of Wilson’s hands, Holsinger said.

Hollar didn’t budge under the gentle prodding of Holsinger, whose soft but urgent voice belied a dogged determination.

"I’ve told you the truth," Hollar replied. "I can’t explain what your reports say. What I told you is what happened."

He pleaded his case again and again, even when Holsinger said he should expect to be arrested on a murder charge after investigators and prosecutors took their case to a grand jury.

Hollar, then 28, was indicted and arrested in February 2008, almost a year to the day after Wilson’s death.

Yesterday, the second day of his second trial, Hollar showed the same unshakeable confidence he expressed in Mississippi almost three years ago, as a rapt jury listened to the hourlong conversation with Holsinger and an earlier voluntary discussion with the detective the morning of Wilson’s death.

Now 30, Hollar won a new trial after being convicted in October 2008 of second-degree murder and being sentenced the same night to 15 years in prison. He was taken in handcuffs from a courtroom in front of his weeping family.

But the decision was overturned when Hollar’s legal team, Cary Bowen and Susan Parrish, discovered that jurors had listened to portions of the first interrogation that weren’t played in court.

The same legal team is now counting on new forensic findings that state experts had been wrong to conclude that Wilson could not have shot herself. Prosecutors, however, have a new expert who is expected to say the original findings by the state were correct.

The trial continues this morning in Henrico Circuit Court and is expected to last through Friday.

A Brisbane employee who stole almost $3 million from the Bank of Queensland (BOQ) and tiffany jewelry then spent it like “Monopoly money” on cars, jewellery and holidays has been sentenced to nine years’ jail.

Reecson (Reecson) Wentworth Denford, 24, of Ascot, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court on Tuesday to one count of fraud over a 20-month period totalling $2.935 million.

The court heard Denford illegally made hundreds of transactions between November 2006 and August 2008 while working for EDS Pty Ltd, a company employed by BOQ for onsite accounting and computer services.

Prosecutor Julie Aylward told the court Denford discovered a loophole where he could make unchecked credit voucher transactions under $10,000 to a body corporate sinking fund looked after by his wife, then forward the money to his personal account.

She said he would then purchase depreciating items with the money, most of which lost half their value the moment they left the store.

Some of the more lavish purchases included a trip to the world’s only seven-star hotel, in Dubai, a $100,000 BMW, a $70,000 Mini Cooper, $450,000 worth of French champagne and $320,000 worth of jewellery.

From the $2.935 million, only an amount of $536,374 was recovered through the sale of his purchases, Ms Aylward said.

“It seems he has low self-esteem and the need to purchase friends was behind the spending,” silver earrings she said.

“He really spent the proceeds as if it were Monopoly money.”

Defence lawyer Tim Ryan told the court his client was an intelligent young man who had identified a loophole with the hope of being promoted.

He said Denford made the initial transactions with the intention of showing his manager that the loophole existed, but then succumbed to the temptation of wanting to impress his “much older” wife – who had now left him.

Mr Ryan told the court that when caught out, Denford had immediately accepted full responsibility for the fraud and had saved authorities a lot of money in helping recover some of the money spent.

However, Judge Kerry O’Brien noted BOQ was still $2.8 million out of pocket after additional costs silver key rings spent on storage, legal fees and internal investigations into the fraud.

He sentenced Denford to nine years’ imprisonment, to be eligible for parole after three years.

Mr Sanjay Kothari, convenor of promotion, marketing and business development at GJEPC, said, “We wanted to introduce Anant in Dubai by April, but it has been delayed due to the recent financial crisis in Dubai. It would now be launched in July.” The Council has already spent Rs 9 crore on various promotional activities including tiffany advertisements and refurbishing retailers’ outlets to highlight the brand.

Actor Sonam Kapoor has also been roped in as a brand ambassador, said Mr Kothari.

Retailers stand to gain as the Council will take care of promotional expenses.

RS 11-CR CORPUS GJEPC formed a corpus of Rs 11 crore, with retailers chipping in with Rs four lakh each, and manufacturers Rs 10 lakh each while the Council itself set aside Rs 2 crore for the promotional activities.

The Council in September had taken upon itself to promote diamond jewellery after De Beers cut its promotional activities in the country, said Mr Kothari.

GJEPC created a new brand Anant Diamond Jewellery by bringing together top 100 retail jewellers including GRT, Khazana Jewellers, Joy Alukkas, Reliance, Tanishq, Orra, TBZ, Rio Tinto, Anmol Jewellers and Carbon.

With the gold prices rising, many people are now considering the single line Anant Diamond earrings to offer as gift, said a Mumbai- based jeweller.

DIAMOND SHORTAGE Rough diamond prices have risen sharply in the past few months after most miners such as De Beers, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Alrosa cut their production following the economic downturn and financial constraints. De Beers recently revealed that it has reduced its first quarter production by almost 90 per cent in 2009.

The De Beers Diamond Trading Company (DTC) has raised the prices of rough diamonds by about five and 10 per cent since March this year, said a Mumbai-based jeweller. Most of the DTC’s Indian sightholders were the worst-affected as prices of smaller roughs being supplied to the Indian market were raised between 3 and 7 per cent. Surat, the hub for diamond processing, imports about Rs 30,000 crore worth of roughs per annum, with De Beers supplying about 60 per cent.

Legendary Spanish design house presents high-end jewellery in the epic Art Noveau and Art Deco styleDamas, the world renowned jeweller, unfurls the magical collections of the legendary Barcelona based Spanish jewellery house, Bagues Masriera such as necklaces, pendant chains, drop earrings, brooches and rings. Combining 18k gold, diamonds, precious stones and highly specialised enamel work dating over two centuries ago and backed by the timeless legacy of master jeweller Lluis Masriera (1872-1958), this acclaimed brand presents two stunning options as adornment, for womenMasriera’s captivating Art Noveau and Art Deco collections featuring nature and ethereal beings and Bagues’ stunning, highly contemporary jewellery collections such as Vitralis, Menorca, Mosaic and Viatge.

Tawhid Abdullah, Managing Director, Damas Jewellery commented, “Gifted goldsmith and modernist painter, Lluis Masriera’s enthralling creations pushed the frontiers of creativity. So they forever remain a reference point in jewellery art. One of its missions is to revive Masriera’s rich historical legacy of more than 4,000 drawings, moulds, dies and pieces by the maestro and preserve it as part of the collections in international museums. Besides this it also brings out re-editions of classic pieces which still continue to be produced in Barcelona. As the Middle East has always had a unique appreciation of jewellery art, particularly women of the region have displayed their admiration for its exclusive high end creations.”

If you have ever wondered whether art can be translated into jewellery, one look at Masriera’s magical and breathtaking array of collections is what it takes to be convinced. Flowers, plants, insects, birds, ethereal beings like fairies come alive in captivating essence…claiming their rightful distinction as ‘jewellery-art’. Two of its most famous pieces include the fairy brooch featuring a shy, ethereal being with her wings spread out elegantly and the other is its charming butterfly pendant. In them, 18k gold settings, brilliant cut diamonds, fired enamel, cultured pearls and rubies fuse in delicate yet detailed artistry with superb enamel work imparting an unbelievable transparency and light to them. Transformed into bewitching works of art they pay grand tribute both to femininity and nature

The secret to their magic is the traditional enamel work technique still in use for over two hundred years handed down through the Masriera workshops that allows the brand to capture the colour, light, as well as the unique cultural ambience of the Mediterranean. The brand’s highly skilled crafts people specialise in the plique–jour and basse-taille techniques often called as ‘fire enamelling’ and ‘air enamelling.’ Employing the ‘vitrail effect’ each piece is handmade from start to finish, and takes up to six to seven weeks to craft.

Its Masriera Deco collection celebrates the precision and infinite possibilities of geometrical beauty in a striking array of jewels blending yellow gold, brilliant and carre cut diamonds, with emerald cut aquamarines and fire enamel. Light, architectural elements burst to life with blue recalling the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean and gold capturing the beauty of sunlight bouncing on its waves.

Bagues Masriera is the collaboration between the legendary house Masriera and Bagues, a family company dedicated to jewellery making which was founded in 1917. In 1985 the two companies merged, and both brands began to operate jointly. Masriera represents the modernist jewellery known internationally as Art Nouveau, and has a very clearly defined style based on the legacy of its acclaimed maestro Lluis Masriera, who paid brilliant homage to the Wagnerian universe. On the other hand, Bagus collections are highly contemporary and excitingly innovative.

It is the only Spanish jewellery firm to be present in the most important museums and whose collections were selected to be a part of the exhibition Barcelona & Modernity. It has been awarded prizes in the most prestigious competitions and shows worldwide most recently the International Design Competition 2004 “Diamonds: Nature’s Miracle” Prize organised by the Diamond Trading Company. It launches its much awaited collections at international trade fairs like Baselworld. The brand’s store in Barcelona, at the Paseo de Gracia is a cultural attraction with a museum feel to it due to the Masriera paintings that hang on its walls. It has an international distribution network in five continents and was launched in Dubai, in 2008.

The Mississippi Department of Insurance issued the following news release:

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale, along with insurance commissioners from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee is auctioning jewelry on Ebay for seven days beginning October 22nd. The jewelry was recovered in connection with the Martin Frankel case.

Frankel was the subject of a worldwide manhunt in 1999, after it was discovered that he had defrauded seven life insurance companies of over $200 million by stealing most of their invested assets. Frankel, posing as an investment broker, had funneled the insurers’ funds to a bank account in Switzerland and then used the money to support his lavish lifestyle and those of his friends and co-conspirators.

The theft was discovered in April 1999, when Commissioner Dale and his staff became suspicious about the identity of the investment broker and the insurers’ reported affiliation with the Vatican.

“This has been a big project for my staff and we continue to work on this case everyday. The efforts of this office and other insurance departments involved only demonstrate the importance of state regulation and why it works,” said Commissioner of Insurance George Dale The four pieces of jewelry were purchased with some of the stolen funds, and were recovered from one of Frankel’s co-conspirators that worked in his mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Frankel, together with 15 of his co-conspirators were convicted or pleaded guilty to a number of felony criminal charges in federal and state courts in Connecticut, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Frankel was apprehended in Germany and served an 18-month sentence in that country before being returned to the United States to face charges. The insurance commissioners in the five states, acting in their official capacity as receivers for the seven insurers, also recovered over 570 diamonds that were in Frankel’s possession when he was arrested in Germany. The diamonds were sold at auction in New York in 2004. In addition to real property recovered in Tennessee and Alabama, the receivers also worked with federal officials to recover other assets in the United States, Switzerland and other foreign countries.

The items being sold on Ebay include an .80 ctw diamond necklace graded VS from Tiffany & Co. and appraised for $7,500; a pair of brilliant cut diamond earrings from Tiffany & Co. with an approximate weight of .81 ctw and appraised for $4,600; a ladies ring containing a sapphire of 2.08 ctw flanked by diamonds of .70 ctw, also from Tiffany & Co. and appraised for $8,000; and an 18 kt yellow gold Cartier ladies watch with thirty-three round brilliant cut diamonds appraised for $4,000.

Due to the fact that the jewelry is being sold as part of a court-ordered insurance liquidation proceedings, all items are offered AS IS and ALL SALES ARE FINAL. No refunds will be made.

Hotels are running full, priests and beauty parlours are booked and caterers are outsourcing tiffany jewellery services as more than 5,000 couples line up to get married on Valentine’s Day in the capital of India’s Hindi heartland. Priests said that’s a conservative estimate.

It’s not just love that’s made the couples zero in on February 14. There’s a more traditional reason too. “The planetary combinations that day are just right for a wedding — the union will be stable and happy,” said Ashok Kumar Mishra, a priest. “That’s why so many people are planning to get married on February 14.”

“The planets get into their most suitable positions at the stroke of midnight,” he said. “Weddings solemnised at midnight or just after that would be most successful. We priests have our hands full.”

Another priest, Anurag Gaur, said: “I have been flooded with requests to solemnise weddings on silver key rings February 14. I have accepted three and rejected nearly 15. There are favourable planetary combinations on other days, too, but the combination with Valentine’s Day is a hit with the youth.”

“Usually, we book three or four weddings,” said wedding organiser Jameel Shamsi. “But this year, the rush on February 14 is maddening. We are handling almost 30 weddings on February 14 and 16.”

Other allied services are in demand, too. For instance, many have asked organisers to arrange theme-based ceremonies, and florists have orders worth lakhs of rupees.

“Disc jockeys and bands are overbooked,” said Rahul Saxena of Ram Krishna Tent House. “I have called for DJs from adjacent cities.”

This Valentine’s Day, Cupid might have better luck sending his arrow through a text message. According to a recent survey by Energizer Energi To Go, when asked to choose between their significant other and their Smart phone, 44 percent of men said they’d either give up their significant other or “seriously have to think about it.”

This recent Energizer survey of male Smart phone users age 24 to 35 confirms that some guys just cheap valentines day jewelry aren’t willing to give up their time on the phone in exchange for that special someone. In fact, 45 percent of guys surveyed said they “can’t live without their Smart phone.” Even so, a majority (60 percent) did admit their digital heart does come with one less-than-favorable feature — poor battery life.

With some Smart phone batteries dying in as little as four hours, there is a lot of potential for broken hearts among Smart phone users. Devices with so much functionality — phone, web, email and gaming to name a few — often need extra power. The recently upgraded Energizer (R) Energi To Go(R) Portable Power for Cell Phones is a battery-driven phone charger that will take care of their digital hearts by giving them extra text and talk time, whenever and wherever they need it.

“At Energizer, we’re always trying to respond to consumers’ needs for portable power,” said Serge Traylor, Energizer Rechargeable Brand Manager. “With the Energizer Energi To Go(R) Portable Power for Cell Phones, you’ll never lose contact with your loved ones, especially on special holidays like Valentine’s Day.”

Energizer Energi To Go Portable Power for Cell Phones is a battery-powered charger that combines the power valentines key rings of Energizer(R) Ultimate Lithium AA batteries and the extreme portability of a compact design to provide the majority of today’s Smart phone users with hours of additional talk time anytime, anywhere.

Carriage Hills Living Center residents got a special Valentine’s Day tiffany jewelry treat Wednesday, courtesy of students at Burns Dance Studio.

The dancers performed several routines for the residents, delivered handmade valentines and joined the residents and staff for a reception at the facility, located on East Gate Drive behind Aiken Mall.

The performance gave Carriage Hills’ denizens a preview of the moves the studio’s performing company has been developing for a competition this March in Charlotte, N.C.

“One of our dancers’ stepfather is the administrator here, Robby Bowles,” said Casey Frails of Burns Dance Studio.

“God has blessed our dancers with a wonderful talent, and what better way to use those silver key rings talents than to bring joy to others?”

“It was just wonderful,” said resident Doris Portka. “The children’s dancing was just beautiful. I’d love for them to come back again.”

Carriage Hills Nursing Center is a licensed skilled nursing facility which focuses on post-hospitalization rehabilitation, with a view toward returning patients home to resume independent living.

“It was great, and it’s definitely uplifting for our residents to see young children here. I think it reminds them of their own children and grandchildren,” said Carriage Hills director of resident services Marcelle Brown.

“Having events like this for our residents is not really that out of the ordinary here. We try to do silver necklaces things to bring the community to them, since they’re not always able to go out and do things themselves.”

Charm lovers can now browse thousands of charms and create their own bracelets, which they can then buy from their local retailer.

Rembrandt Charms has launched an interactive Web site that allows users to create their tiffany jewellery bracelet at any time or place. The users can pick the metal, bracelet style, and the individual charms.

“We continually strive for better service for both our retail jewelers and the charmcollecting community,” says Rembrandt Charms founder Chris Lux. “We have proven in the past that the Internet can be a valuable tool for manufacturers and retailers to work together to gain greater market share and insight into consumer demands.”

When users finish designing their virtual charm bracelets, the site will provide the name and address of their local jeweler, where novice designers can go with a printout-complete with picture, charm names and style numbers-to buy their bracelet.

“The ultimate goal of this program…is to bring the customer into their local jeweler to purchase Rembrandt charms and charm bracelets,” says John Kutch, director of sales and marketing. “Our Web site has been very successful in the past by referring over 250,000 consumers to their jeweler.”

Rembrandt Charms offers the world’s largest collection of handcrafted charms in key rings gold and sterling silver.

“We are anticipating a very busy and charming holiday season,” says Rembrandt Communications Director Jennifer Hillman.
